Silence in performance

In a paragraph on "silence in performance" (131), Prevost notes that "[t]he 'noisy' musician (who may perform very quietly!) will keep pushing the music around, never letting it rest, never letting it grow, keeping it caged in egotism. The meta-musician will allow the gyroscopic momentum of the music to play itself out: it must stop rotating and fall."

also: "Silence is the background of meta-music. It gives every sound its aural dimension"
