Improvisation in community

Prevost notes that the "dual proposition" of improvisation ["heurism and dialogue"] creates certain sets of "limitations" (defined a bit abstractly on 79)

attempts to work with these limitations can solidify into "self-deceiving patterns"

to prevent this, "they have to be placed with confident uncertainty into the extra-personal life of community, the musical collective but also other communities. And community itself is defined and tested by its ability to accommodate many quantities and varieties of human responses; enough to perplex, confound and control (and perhaps ultimately liberate) the most rigid and insecure of egos" (79)
