Spivak's "text"

Delany 163: "Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak described 'text' as anything that presents itself as a play of presences and absences--anything that was light and dark, anything that had this idea but not that one as part of it. In short, a text was anything that could be read--and critics have been reading art works--paintings and sculptures--since Ruskin.
