The Wisdom of Solomon "describes Sophia as 'the divine power, active in history.' Here, the history of the Jews is seen as guided by the movements of Wisdom in human life. In this book, Wisdom enters the broad stream of history itself; it is she who protects Adam, causes the death of Cain, and saves the world by assisting Noah. It is Wisdom who preserves Abraham, rescues Lot, and protects Jacob and Joseph. And it is Wisdom who 'delivers a holy people and a blameless seed from a nation of oppressors [...] and guides them along a marvelous way , and becomes unto them a covering in the daytime and a light of stars through the night' (Wisdom 10:15-17). Thus it is Wisdom who saves the patriarchs and leads Israel out from bondage in Egypt." (Engelsman 93)
