Tone Glow: Nicolás Pereda (b. 1982) is a Mexican-Canadian filmmaker who has spent his career constructing works that blur the lines between the real and imagined. Concerned with the prismatic nature of mundanity, his films—methodical, slow-paced, and featuring a stable of regular actors both professional and non-professional—revel in the mysteries and realities of everyday experiences, whether harsh, absurd, humorous, or all three at once. Inspired by the films of Tsai Ming-liang, his works unfold patiently, weaving in biographical elements of both himself and his subjects/actors.
