Demeter

Engelsman 51: "Demeter is not merely the weeping, grieving mother; she appears as 'awesome,' 'majestic,' 'venerable,' practical, and highly principled. At times she is angry, wrathful, cruel, unyielding, and vindictive. Among her powers are the ability to bring the seasons and good harvests; she also protects, anoints, and immortalizes. She inaugurates the mysteries and brings the greatest blessing and joy to men and gods. She commands, she plans, and she schemes to achieve her purpose. And when she is thwarted or doubted, she destroys, curses, conceals, and deprives. She is an agent of fate."
