Accumulations of unrelated stuff

Hejinian, on Stein's Lucy Church Amiably, wonders "What [...] prevents the text from becoming more than an accumulation of unrelated stuff? Well, first: the coincidental presence of diverse different things all on its own generates interrelationships and even mutual relevancies. More important, however: everything has the potential to become the landscape's center of gravity and exert structuring force on the whole." (20-1)
