1831: Heliography

June 7, 1831: "the online of the house across the street appeared on a silve-coated copper plate treated with iodine vapro by Nicephore Niepce in Louis Jacques Daguerre's studio. It was the first lastin heliography, a design made by the sun at man's request but without the mediation of a painter's brain or hand"

this predates the daguerrotype (1839, superseded in 1856 by the "ambrotype," per Wikipedia)
